Census and Roles

Census

The first step to becoming a Cabin Citizen is to create a profile on Cabin’s Census.

Anyone can create a profile in the Census and begin building their reputation and identity within the community. When you participate in our online and offline gatherings, you can earn roles, passport stamps, and tokens that give you privileges, reputation, and governance rights.

This credentialing system contextualizes your experience within the Cabin ecosystem and is viewable by other community members as an on-chain reputation and identity-management system.

Roles and Playing an IRL RPG Game

We are co-creating the world’s first IRL RPG: an in-real life role playing game. Playing the game starts with choosing your role—archetypes who can help co-create a network city. These roles give people a path of contribution and direction as they join the community.

Roles form guilds and develop their own subcultures, rights of passage, skills, and practices. While we currently have six roles, we expect many more to emerge and specialize from within the community over time.

Here are our first six roles:

  1. Caretaker: Operator of a neighborhood. Jack-of-all-trades responsible for a space.
  2. Builder: Maker of physical things that improve the built environment of neighborhoods.
  3. Gatherer: Space-maker in residence. Person on-site building the container and culture.
  4. Naturalist: Grower of plants, animals, and systems that support the natural environment.
  5. Creator: Very-online producer of art, novelty, content, and experiments.
  6. Traveler: Remote worker living across the neighborhood network.

The Census is Cabin’s community directory, and provides the infrastructure of the IRL RPG. You can join the Census here.

When you participate in our online and offline gatherings, you can earn roles, passport stamps, and tokens that give you privileges, reputation, and governance rights. Anyone can create their profile in our Census and begin building their reputation and identity within the community. These credentials are distributed by a decentralized network of community members, stored onchain, and publicly verifiable by anyone:

  • What are roles @Cabin?

Roles are granted to skilled Builders, Naturalists, Creators, Gatherers, and Caretakers. Roles are autonomously managed onchain by Cabin’s guilds (groups consisting of one specific role), using hats protocol

  • Why should I choose a role(s)?

Roles help other citizens and neighborhoods/outposts understand your own specialties. Some neighborhoods may curate experiences that are only available to certain roles. Some of those experiences might even be free!

You don’t have to select a role to be an engaged Citizen or community member.

  • What roles types are there?

Our first six roles are Builder, Naturalist, Creator, Gatherer, Traveler, and Caretaker. We will undoubtedly create more roles with time. Maybe you’ll create the next role! Read more here.

How to Play Cabin’s IRL RPG

Cabin is becoming a platform on which anyone can build mini games. The City Directory (launching in May) will be the best example of a full-fledged game so far. Below are a few examples of mini games that we have made already.

There are no rules on what can or can’t be considered a game. Once you have broad knowledge of everything Cabin is, you can develop your own games on top of the community however you see fit.
