Cabin Neighborhood Accelerator Marketing

I’ll clarify some of my thinking - I was in a rush typing it out earlier.

I accept the point that creating content is useful, independent of Cabin’s business model and generally support the flywheel you describe. And I also recognize that CBC and Citizenship aren’t the only two possible paths for monetization. I still wanted to share my skepticism about CBCs as a primary model for revenue generation given how that product type is way less successful now that the COVID era is pretty much over. I suppose I have some scars from my On Deck days…

I suppose I also share some of Ktando’s concerns about the low engagement on sample content and existing track record.

Additionally, I believe that the Neighborhood Accelerator falls under the Cabin Labs umbrella, and I remember that Cabin Labs had $72,000 already set aside for content/digital footprint. Why couldn’t some of those funds be attributed to sharing content from the neighborhood accelerator?

And @McBain , I agree with you that people sometimes don’t try long enough on content, but we could still judge the first 5 videos based off their quality (not engagement) before we commission 175 more.

Still allocated some of my votes for yes because it’s clear that Graham is aligned with Cabin

Thanks for expanding @jxn. I didn’t realize there was already budget allocated through Cabin Labs- would be great to understand why that’s not being used vs. coming back to the treasury for additional funds at this time?

Thank you @Ktando for this feedback!

I’m definitely aligned and I too am excited about the possibility of joining this mission.

I understand the importance of demonstrating a proven track record in driving top-of-funnel through social channels. I want to be abundantly clear that I don’t have examples of short-form content that have gone viral yet, I do have a solid history of creating engaging and impactful content across different mediums.

  • During the pandemic, I created and ran the Twitter account “Proud Mom of a CEO,” which became the one of the most popular accounts on VC Twitter with over seven thousand followers in this small niche. This account gained significant traction and engagement, leading to a collaboration with Shrug Capital, where we created limited edition socks that were a huge hit. The account’s influence was so notable that it was eventually sold to Party Round, a VC-backed neobank.

  • While working with Party Round, I came up with the “HelpfulVCs” NFT drop, which saw 85 of the top 100 VCs claim their NFTs within three hours.

  • As mentioned in my original post, my experience with Galvanize is the most applicable here. TikTok wasn’t a thing then but built a top of funnel engine that increase applications and reduced CAC by 50%. The simplified version of this funnel was: Blogs/Social Media > Hackathons/Free Classes > Application > Acceptance. I owned the Hackathons/Free classes. I wrote articles for the content and helped people fill out applications.

  • Community Building at Moov: I was the community manager at Moov, a fintech developer tooling company. While there I grew the developer community from 300 people (0 DAU) on a slack to over 3000 slack members and 500 DAUs, culminating in Fintech Devcon the largest fintech developer only conference at the time. Growing the top of funnel at Moov was: Blog Content/Twitter > Weekly Happy Hour > Bi-weekly private talks > Join Community

I’ve spent the last six months diving deep into short-form content creation, learning the ropes, and experimenting with various strategies. While I haven’t nailed it yet I’ve de-risked much of the learning about what tools to use and what not to do (aka AI all the things, people still win).

This video should really be two posts but I wanted to put something together today for you: TikTok - Make Your Day

I hope this shows that:

A. I can turn stuff around
B. On camera it comes across that I’m genuine

I, nor anyone else, can promise virality. But It’s rare to have the combination of knowing this domain of community building so well, and be so interested in making content.

Appreciate the questions!

You can see the Cabin Labs proposal here (Cabin Labs), which does have budget available (GnosisSafeProxy | Address 0xc39cf17c216d05cc3C59163718A31897baD80F56 | Etherscan). As a reminder: “The overall goal of Cabin Labs is to help promote high quality metrics-driven experiments for the DAO by helping new proposals get ready to operate independently as quickly as possible.”

I offered to start Graham off within Cabin Labs when he first approached us about this proposal, and I am still happy to do that. Graham chose to start with his own DAO proposal because he felt like he was ready to operate independently vs. being incubated by Cabin Labs. In cases where people are ready to create their own proposals to the DAO, I think that’s ideal, because it lets everyone in the community weigh in to helpful discussions like this one & participate in the decision-making process.

Hi @Ktando I wrote up a 1 month update on the program here: Month 1 Update - Neighborhood Accelerator Summer 2024

I welcome your always helpful questions and thoughts! My hope is that putting out frequent, small updates + more comprehensive updates like this will become easier with Graham on the team.

Hey all- I just voted. I don’t think the proposal in it’s current form is something I can support at this time. There are other paths to experimenting. I’d be supportive of 1 month- to see more example of content and if we can see signs of early traction that would justify further investment. I appreciate the conversation and different perspectives.

Thanks for this! I’m excited to read when I have some more time this evening. I think having this context ahead of future proposals would be great too so whomever is interested can read ahead of voting. Appreciate all your efforts!

This proposal has failed: see Snapshot here

I want to thank everyone who took the time to engage thoughtfully, provide helpful feedback, and vote on this proposal: @McBain @savkruger @jxn @Dahveed @grin @Ktando @charlie, thank you for your comments.

Seeing a high degree of thoughtful engagement from knowledgable token holders (especially when it sometimes results in rejecting a proposal) is a fantastic sign of a healthy DAO. On today of all days — Independence Day in the US — it warms my heart to see people participating in the governance processes we have as an organization.

In accordance with the feedback from this thread, @McBain and I have decided to move forward with a standard 1 month starting role within Cabin Labs, in which Graham will have the chance to produce initial content and demonstrate his skills. After that 1 month period, we can evaluate if it makes sense for him to continue working within Cabin Labs or spin out a new proposal.

Happy 4th of July everyone!

I want to double-down on this and send a few tokens (hee hee :smile_cat:) of appreciation to everyone who contributed their time and thoughts to this discussion. The best way to criticize existing institutions is to show them how we do it better.
