Cabin FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Cabinā€™s vision?

Cabinā€™s vision is to build a network city. You can learn more about this by reading our vision doc here.

How did Cabin start?

Cabin began as a viral crowdfund in May 2021 to support a creator residency program. 101 internet strangers donated money towards supporting four creators to live each month in a 4 bedroom shipping container cabin that one of our cofounders designed, pre-fabricated, and placed on the land that would eventually become Neighborhood Zero.

What is Cabinā€™s goal?

Cabinā€™s goal is to have a million people living across our network city in the next 50 years. In the next five years, we would like to found our first 500 neighborhoods. You can learn about our roadmap by reading the vision doc.

Is Cabin a company?

No, Cabin is a DAO that is legally structured as a Wyoming Unincorporated Nonprofit Association.

DAOs are Decentralized Autonomous Organizations. You can think of them like internet group chats with a shared bank account. Imagine if a subreddit had funds and gave members of that subreddit a secure way to vote on how those funds were used.

Cabin operates as a DAO because we believe building a network city requires greater transparency and a collective voice to govern itself. We started as a crowdfund with 101 participants - those were all the people who were initially given voting power. You can view the up-to-date distribution of voters here.

:microphone: The first 12 episodes of our podcast Campfire are about DAOs. You can listen to them here.

How do we communicate?

Cabin doesnā€™t exist on any single platform. However, we use the following platforms for certain communication functions.

  1. We communicate with each other internally on this forum and on Discord.
  2. We organize our neighborhoods on the the Census and the City Directory.
  3. We vote on big decisions in Snapshot.
  4. Our Neighborhood Accelerator program uses telegram, and many neighborhoods have their own chat groups.
  5. We tell the story of Cabin and other folks reimagining how we live on our podcast, Campfire.
